The folks over at McKinsey Quarterly have conducted a study into how companies value Web 2.0 technologies and how the past couple of years have seen this value grow considerably.

The charts below show the most important technologies and tools to businesses over the period 2007 to 2009.

We can see that blogs, video sharing, microblogs and wikis have all seen a sizeable jump over the two year period, some even coming from nowhere to become a valuable business tool today.

The report makes for a very interesting read and examines the benefits that greater use of these technologies can provide, we’d recommend checking out the full analysis here and let us know what you think in the comments below!

The whole 2.0 direction is one in which companies should be focussing more. I am here now typing a response to this blog post, web 2.0. This site is barely paying lipservice to the idea though. I understand that 2.0 is utilised within some of the applications Moreover make available but they are behind a wall. 2.0 is about integration of society and content.

I am not suggesting that Moreover give there products away for free, I am suggesting that Moreover lure in custom with free bait. To a degree this is done by the provision of a fantastic selection of free RSS feeds but the problem is people are inclined to receive their feeds from the sites with which they interact. Moreover’s free feeds are akin to handing out flyers to prospective customer. Real 2.0 would be akin to putting on a free fayre and drawing in clientele to make the big money on the coconut shy and the tombola.

As a technology based company it is a shame that Moreover’s business model is so 20th century.

Hello, thanks for your feedback and candour here – we always appreciate hearing from end-users.

The free feeds are something we are always looking to grow and refresh in terms of the selection on offer, to keep them relevant and up-to-date with the latest news topics.

We are also planning to grow our free offering in the near future, taking it beyond just the selection of free news feeds currently available. Keep your eyes on the blog for new developments and we’d love to hear back from you soon.
